About Us

Dave Read is passionate about fully exploring & harnessing the wide-ranging therapeutical aspects of Emotional Intelligence and Literacy as a force to achieve holistic wellbeing & balance – and to transform classroom relationships – unlocking the deepest potential of all students, teachers & school staff.

Qualifying as a teacher in 1981, Dave has combined his considerable classroom experience and expertise with his holistic work as a professional Reiki/therapist (MNFSH) to now devote himself to developing therapeutic approaches to Emotional Literacy – and frequently stages workshops and talks at conferences across the UK and Europe.

He founded the-lightworks.co.uk in 2006 – creating and developing both the CoolFire and Still Dynamic programmes – alongside the CoolFire Explorer workshop series for identified & specialised groups. Dave is now training an emerging network of highly skilled tutor-therapists – all of whom are qualified in their own right with extensive teaching experience – and who can lead the CoolFire programmes anywhere in the UK & Europe.

Over the last four years, Dave has worked with more than 3,500 teachers and school staff. Dave also continues to stage CPD workshops for ATL members throughout the UK – and works with the NASUWT to provide CoolFire workshops as part of their annual programme for Newly Qualified Teachers (NQT’s).

Over the last two years, Dave has also staged aspects of CoolFire with over 5,000 students (Aged 7-13) in 40+ schools of all kinds in Thurrock and Southend through the UK government Pathfinder project – “Targeted Mental Health in Schools” (TaMHS).

Alongside working with schools and organisations within the UK, Dave has recently worked with the ELIA project (Emotional Literacy in Action) – an EU Lifelong Learning project in three countries. Having designed and presented Emotional Literacy workshops for vocational subject teachers in Austria, the-Lightworks then went onto work with the University of Belgrade in presenting CoolFire workshops for their education and teacher-training faculty.

A number of schools have now also teamed up with their Local Education Authority to host the highly effective one-week programme – “CoolFire – Connect” – enabling them both to experience, activate and sustain the CoolFire Approach – all within the one week.

The-Lightworks is now seeking to apply the CoolFire Approach to a range of community groups and organisations of all kinds – in the UK and beyond – to combat disadvantage and work with a range of social issues such as health, rehabilitation, community cohesion and more…
