A One-Day Event @ Engaines Primary School, Little Clacton, Essex – November 23rd, 2016
“Excited and Amazed by my Thoughts”
“It was Great Fun”
“When I’m Angry, I can use CoolFire”
“I’m Feeling Really, Really Calm and Relaxed”
Just a few comments from a group of Engaines Primary School’s Year 4 pupils experiencing “The CoolFire Effect” – roaring like lions: jumping, running and shouting: becoming profoundly still and calm – all within the space of minutes – and already beginning to realise that they could use a range of CoolFire techniques to choose how they were feeling and acting…
At the same time, teachers from eight north-east Essex primary and secondary schools were watching live “as it happened”. They observed many changes and developments within each pupils’ emotional, mental and physical journey over the course of the introductory CoolFire Gateway workshop, that lasted about seventy-five minutes.
A number of themes clearly emerged – including:
- We are so much more than “Mind” – but a constantly shifting interaction of Mind, Body and Feelings
- By consciously changing the Feeling (Biochemistry), we change the Thought (Biochemical Reaction) and therefore change the Action (Output)
- Creating a new benchmark of calm and stillness for an everyday state of “Energised Calm”
The workshop opened the one-day event, designed to explore ways of integrating Emotional Literacy, mental healthcare and wellbeing into the school culture as a vital part of effective teaching and learning – highlighting the CoolFire Approach.
After the break, the focus moved to the science-based principles underpinning the CoolFire Approach – and how the CoolFire programmes and workshops quickly enable schools to create an Emotionally Literate culture. Again, a number of emerging themes – including:
- An inseparable Mind-Body connection – “BodyMind”
- Every emotional, mental and physical “input” has an equivalent physical biochemical response at a molecular level
- “The Mind” as an “intelligent flow” of information within each and every cell
- CoolFire develops and works with a set of “Positive Inputs” that seeks to create a positive biochemical response, working toward a “BodyMind” balance which in turn will underpin all aspects of academic attainment
The health of Teachers and school staff is frequently taken for granted – and the afternoon’s Creating Calm workshop demonstrated how to create effective teaching and learning through personal development and wellbeing.
It was great to work with such committed and interested staff from a variety of schools who were very enthusiastic in their response:
“All a fantastic day – I’ve learnt so much”
“Excellent Presentations”
“Really Enjoyed the Day – Eager to Take Techniques Back to School to Share…”
“Very Different – Very Informative…”
